Don’t be Fooled by Skin Whitening Website Scams!

Thursday, 2009-01-29

It was bound to happen . . .

One of the first signs of the success we’ve had bringing the Diana Stalder brand of skin care products to the U.S. market was the proliferation of fake products and illegal, unlabeled products trying to cash in unfairly on the valuable Diana Stalder brand name.  We’re starting to turn the corner on that issue now, as most consumers seem to be savvy enough not to fall for these fake products now that they know they’re out there.

But now the scammers have latched onto a new form of “flattery”–the fake web site.  We won’t reward any of these scam artists by actually listing links to their bogus web sites here, but they’re not hard to find.  One of the scammers is actually buying ads on Google with the provocative attention-grabbing question, “Is Diana Stalder a Scam?”  How ironic that a scammer would actually question whether the Diana Stalder brand is somehow a scam!  :-)

If you follow the link to their web site, you will find that they don’t really offer any information or evidence to backup their sensationalized Google ad.  In fact, it seems they are careful not to tread anywhere too close to territory that would invite a lawsuit.  Instead, they try to trick the reader into thinking their web site is simply the personal, independent opinion of a regular mom of three by the name of Heather who happens to prefer another skin care product line over Diana Stalder.  The truth, of course, is that the web site (and dozens of other similar sites that unfairly denigrate other brands) is the work of the company selling the products that “Heather” has found to be so miraculous.

If you want a good laugh, and you know a little bit about HTML (the language behind web sites), go to ”Heather’s” page and view the HTML source.  You will see all kinds of interesting hidden text that’s apparently meant to increase search engine rankings.  Some of it is apparently automatically generated by a computer, leading to interesting, non-sensical gems like “Diana Stalder are typically described as the area encircling the eyes feeling viscid and inflamed” and “Diana Stalder caused by sleep deprivation and insomnia can be easily remedied by applying cold to the surrounding area.”  Huh?!

Sadly, “Heather’s” web site is far from the only scam blog that’s not really what it claims to be.  One of the more common deceptive practices is to build a site that looks like an independent organization that evaluates various products.  Of course, the authors are actually far from independent, and the “results” miraculously favor the products they are secretly pushing on another web site.

Another common tactic is to pose as a customer in various forums around the web, talking up certain products (in which the commenter has a financial interest) while talking down the competition.  Of course, the vast majority of participants in the chat rooms and other forums really are trustworthy.  But just be aware that some aren’t.  If you aren’t really sure of someone’s identity–or who’s really behind a given web site–you should probably be at least a little skeptical about what they have to say.

At SouthGain, we always try to be honest and transparent.  As tempting as it might be, you won’t find us setting up fake web sites to try to trick you into buying our products.  Call us old-fashioned, but if we have something to say, we’ll say it here on our blog.  Or we’ll post it under our own name.  We won’t try to hide behind some anonymous posting on a web forum, or trick anyone with a bogus web site that pretends to be something it’s not.

Anyway, that’s our view.  If you’d like to share your thoughts, feel free to leave a comment here on our blog!

Double Check Your Ship-To Address

Wednesday, 2009-01-21

We’ve recently experienced a large number of problems related to customers’ shipping addresses, so we’d like to remind everyone to carefully double check your ship-to address when placing an order.  Remember, if you pay with PayPal, we are required to ship to the address specified when you make your paymenent (not necessarily the address you have on-file with eBay).  If that address is out-of-date or otherwise no longer valid, your shipment will either be returned to us (in which case you’ll have to pay shipping charges again) or it will be delivered to the current resident at that address (in which case you’ll probably never receive your shipment at all).

So please take just a moment to verify your address when you go through the checkout process, especially if you’ve recently moved, or it’s been a long time since you’ve used PayPal.  If you’re not sure what address you have currently on-file with eBay and PayPal, now would be a good time to sign into both accounts and double check.  This simple step could save you a lot of headaches down the road.

SouthGain eBay Store – Auctions or Fixed Price?

Sunday, 2009-01-11

For some of the most popular Diana Stalder items in our eBay store, we have both fixed-price listings and auction listings.  Our auctions are normally listed with free shipping, and the bidding starts at the same price as our fixed-price items.  We also include a “Buy It Now” price that’s equivalent to our regular fixed price plus standard U.S. shipping costs ($2.95 for individual Diana Stalder items).

So if you’re a U.S. buyer and you only intend to purchase a single item, your cost is the same whether you buy the fixed-price item and pay shipping or you do a ”Buy It Now” on the auction item and get free shipping.  But if you intend to buy more than one item, whether you buy from a fixed-price listing or an auction listing can make a big difference in your total cost.

Hopefully an example will help illustrate.  Suppose you live in the U.S.  and you’d like to buy a Diana Stalder Papaya Kojic Soap, a Diana Stalder Surely White Body Whitening Lotion and a Diana Stalder Surely White Whitening Cream with standard shipping.  If you buy these items from the eBay fixed-price listings, your invoice will look like this:

Diana Stalder Papaya Kojic Soap $7.99
Diana Stalder Surely White Body Whitening Lotion $16.99
Diana Stalder Surely White Whitening Cream $11.99
Subtotal $36.97
Combined Shipping $4.85
Grand total $41.82

Remember, for fixed-price Diana Stalder items in our eBay store, U.S. combined shipping is $2.95 for the first item plus $0.95 for each additional item.  Now, if you buy these same items as auction listings, using the “Buy It Now” option on eBay, your invoice will look like this:

Diana Stalder Papaya Kojic Soap $10.94
Diana Stalder Surely White Body Whitening Lotion $19.94
Diana Stalder Surely White Whitening Cream $14.94
Subtotal $45.82
Combined Shipping $0.00
Grand total $45.82

So you could have saved $4.00 by buying everything as a fixed-price listing and taking advantage of our combined shipping discounts, as opposed to buying from the auction listings and using the “Buy It Now” option.

But you might be able to save even more by bidding on the auction items if you have the right combination of patience and good luck.  If you watch the auctions closely, you might be able to win some items for the minimum bid price, and combined with free shipping, this can really give you the best savings.  Here’s an example, using the same items above, and assuming you win each of the auctions for the minimum bid price:

Diana Stalder Papaya Kojic Soap $7.99
Diana Stalder Surely White Body Whitening Lotion $16.99
Diana Stalder Surely White Whitening Cream $11.99
Subtotal $36.97
Combined Shipping $0.00
Grand total $36.97

This represents a considerable $4.85 savings over the fixed-price approach, and a whopping $8.85 over the “Buy It Now” auction listing approach!  Of course, there’s no guarantee with auctions.  You might be outbid at the last second and end up having to wait for the next auction (or remember, you always have the option of just buying from the fixed-price listing).  But if you’re a savvy eBay buyer, bidding in our auctions might just be the best approach for you!

Bottom line, if you intend to buy multiple items, your best bet is either to buy from the fixed-price listing (to save on combined shipping), or to try to win the auctions at a lower price.  If you buy multiple auction items using “Buy It Now,” you are definitely spending more than you have to.

How to Save on Diana Stalder Purchases

Thursday, 2009-01-08

[Please note, as stated in the comments below, that this offer has been discontinued.  Our best prices can now be found directly in our web store (www.SouthGain-Skin-Care.com).]

Here’s a quick hint for those of you who like to save money (and who doesn’t?!).  If you buy your Diana Stalder products directly from SouthGain Enterprises, we can offer a 10% discount off of the normal prices we charge every day in our eBay store.  All you need to do is send us a list of the products you want (through e-mail or Skype chat), and let us know what country you live in.  We’ll e-mail an invoice to you through PayPal, reflecting the 10% discount.  You can then follow the link in that e-mail to pay with your PayPal account, or if you don’t have a PayPal account you can simply pay using a credit card without creating a new account.  It’s that simple!

This offer may be changed at any time, so act now!
